heart of the home

for whatever reason, a lot of the images i have been collecting recently are full of interiors with white as the main colour- white walls, white furniture. i always thought of myself as a colour fiend though so maybe this is just a growth in style, i like the combination of very neutral with dramatic additions of colour and print, maybe on a sofa or a huge framed piece of art on one wall.
my interior fantasy that never seems to change is a huge kitchen that has beautiful salvaged wood worktops with cupboards and dressers painted in a velvety, navy charcoal...with white wall tiles mixed with found patterned  tiles... a Belfast sink...steel chairs around the island unit....a bench covered in eclectic cushions on one side of a huge kitchen table so you can squeeze lots of bums around the table...industrial style lights over the work space and a gorgeous chandelier style low over the table...oh to dream!
below are some mood board images for my kitchen.

gorgeously stacked open shelves

think this looks great as well as being practical, also love the matt black

quirky chandelier
factory pendants
love the these patterned tiles
units painted in farrow&ball, no31. railings

perfect sofa for guests to laze on while dinner is cooking

ryan korban

i briefly mentioned Ryan Korban to you in an earlier post and am excited to show you some of his work. not only is his portfolio of interior styling visually impressive, but the fact that this new york based stylist is only 25 and has successfully completed a catalogue of swanky new york apartments, print work and is still in high demand is extremely impressive and a testament to the quality of his work. his website says his approach to styling is summed up as:
"The idea that our living space can be exact and polished, while still comfortable and supremely liveable...we want our spaces to be attractive and inspirational but nevertheless an escape."

to me, his use of so many different textures and materials in one space(-leather upon fur upon silks and pattern, glass and wood) creates a modern and luxe take on traditional styling. enough of my rambling, here are some images to demonstrate.
you can read up more about him and be inspired by his portfolio on his website http://ryankorban.com/ .

when i grow up i want to live in a castle

on a recent visit to the V&A i came across this photograph and i thought it was amazing, it is a castle in Germany called Schloss Elz Castle, and has been in the same family for the last 800 years. research says the reason for its fairytale appearance is the result of many different building campaigns from the 12th century onwards. this image was taken c.1860 and although it has been tidied up it still looks like this today.
i would love to see what the inside looks like, the possibilities of elaborate décor are endless; i think it should be as bold and eccentric as the building itself, with luxurious textures and huge pieces of art on the walls...what a dream job!

put a frame on it

framing collections of photo's, drawings, keepsakes and anything else that you have kept in your pile of worldly possessions is a perfect way to inject points of interest to your walls and show some of your personality in your home. i've moved house a few times and the first things i do are get my bedsheets on and pictures on the wall- even if i just blu-tack images up, it always makes me feel like the space is mine.
below are two images by Ryan Korban, a brilliant interior stylist whose work i love. more on him later, but these images relate to this post so i've popped them in for your viewing pleasure. i really love the black and white photo wall at the bottom, giving your photo walls a theme- in this case portraits- creates a striking look with a real statement.

etcetera etcetera.

Sibella Court is an interior stylist, designer of interiors and products, shop owner and author.  her success  is no surprise, her effortless personal style resonates through her work, she makes the imperfect look perfect and I personally adore her style. one of her books, etc, is a visual feast and full of inspiration, i always look back at it and never fail to get lost in creative ideas when flicking through the pages. below are a few different images from the book. enjoy!

one of my favourite colour schemes from the book

i love mixing old and new- the clean lines of the book cabinet contrast beautifully with the old style wallpaper  and  gorgeous ceiling.

look at yourself in the water

'You come to New York to find the ambience that will evoke your best. You do not necessarily know what precisely that may be, but you come to New York to discover it.'
-James Hillman.

Below are some photographs I took while in New York.
